QuickTricks welcomes newer players!

The club offers multiple opportunities for newer players to play and learn:

Beginner games -- for those with 0-20 masterpoints-- on the first and third Mondays of the month, at 6:45 PM (holidays excepted).  Play 18 boards with others at your level.  $10 table fee, masterpoints awarded.  Note:  a minimum of 4 tables is required to award masterpoints.  Advance signups are requested and the game may be cancelled if attendance is insufficient.  Contact QuickTricks new player coordinator Amelia Kaymen at [email protected] for more information and to sign up.

Supervised play and interactive lessons on April 27, May 11, and June 8, at 6:30 PM with QuickTricks teacher Andrew Straus.  $5 table fee, masterpoints not awarded.  Students play 5 hands designed to highlight bidding, declaring, leads and defense issues.  Each table will play the same hand at the same time.  After all tables have finished the hand, the group will discuss the optimal outcome including the auction, declaring, leads and defense.  Questions are encouraged.  Contact Andrew Straus at [email protected] for more information.

On June 22 Andrew will give a lesson on slam bidding.  Contact him for more information and to sign up.

Mentoring Program

The club's mentoring program is held on the first Monday of the month.  To sign up for mentoring, as either a mentor (open game players) or a mentee (499er and 0-20 players) send Mentoring Program Coordinator Brandi Chavin an email at [email protected].

The club offers two mentoring opportunities:

Play with a mentor in the open game:

More experienced mentees can play with a mentor in the open game (regular $10 table fee and masterpoints).  You will be assigned a partner for your first mentoring session.  The mentor and mentee can then decide to continue playing together or to try out new mentors/mentees.  This form is not suitable for players who have recently graduated from the class or are new to bridge.

Play at a separate teaching table:

We will have a separate teaching table which is not part of the regular games with three or four learners and a mentor ($5, no masterpoints).  Players can stop to ask questions and play without any time limits or pressure.  We will try to assign mentees who are at similar experience levels to the teaching table.   This form is suitable for all players.

Both mentors and mentees can participate in the program whenever they wish, from once a year to every first Monday.  No ongoing commitment is required. One mentoring session is better than none!  While we hope to be able to accommodate all interested players, the scope and success of the program depends entirely on the level of participation on both ends.  We cannot guarantee anyone a mentor or mentee for any given session, although we will try our best.

Chalk Talks on the first Monday of the month at 6:00. The Chalk Talks are short, informative talks on topics of interest to beginning and intermediate players, given by QuickTricks advanced players.  See the Chalk Talks page for the schedule and details.
